Key achievements as a young leader
First would be the interaction with the Principal of one of the Government schools I have worked at for the YOUNG MINDS Dream initiative, his agreement without any contention and the trust in the initiative was something really gratifying.
Second would be the enthusiasm with which the students want to be part of the sessions and recall our interactions even outside formal settings. True achievement lies in feeling fulfilled by the work I do every day—work that aligns with my values and aspirations.
- Lastly, being selected for fellowships like the Millennium Fellowship, the Peace Gong fellowship and a variety of conferences, conclaves and panels is also something I consider as achievements as a young leader.
Lessons learned as a young leader
– My first learning as a young leader is to be empathetic. It is essential to listen to all the stakeholders and the people you wish to work with/for. In my journey, I have realized the importance of exploring and learning.
–My next learning has been that you actually never fail, you either succeed or learn. No idea is a small idea, do not undermine yourself, work on it and act.
–Lastly, one must take care of themselves and practice self-care. Being a leader comes with various responsibilities, maybe be extremely tedious and to produce the best output, one needs to be in their best self.
Top Tips for aspiring young leaders
_ Have a learning attitude, keep learning and growing personally. His answer made me reflect and I think there is some value in being a good follower as you navigate your own leadership journey.
_ No impact is a small impact. If you are passionate about something and it is a need, do pursue it.
– Do not build false trust, either make the community self-sustainable or have an intervention which has a long-lasting impact.
-Have a solution-centric mindset. No problem is totally unsolvable. Try to think how you can solve it!
-Don’t hesitate from making mistakes. But learn from them and don’t repeat them.
